Welcome Message
I am very pleased to announce that the 39th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Toxicology (JSOT) will be held at the Sendai International Center on July 17–19, 2012. As this will be the first annual meeting since the change of JSOT’s name in Japanese, my fellow organizers and I are working hard to prepare what we hope will be a most memorable event for all who attend.
The venue city, Sendai, was ravaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake that struck on March 11, 2011. The unprecedented tsunami that followed the earthquake wrought tragic loss of life and immense destruction that will likely take several years to repair. Those attending the annual meeting will have the opportunity to tour the areas hit by the tsunami and see with their own eyes the dreadful aftermath of this catastrophe. In addition to the tsunami, the powerful tremors also caused considerable damage, but fortunately recovery efforts in central Sendai are progressing smoothly, so there should be no significant hindrances to our hosting of the annual meeting. I strongly encourage everyone to attend the meeting, in part as a show of support for the disaster-affected communities.
The 39th annual meeting will be different from past gatherings in that it will be held in conjunction with the 6th International Congress of Asian Society of Toxicology (ASIATOX-VI), since 2012 will be JSOT’s turn as an ASIATOX member society to host this triennial congress. In recent years, toxicological research has rapidly grown in the countries of Asia, so ASIATOX-VI promises to be a wonderful forum for the region’s toxicologists to mingle and share opinions and the latest advances in their research. Those interested can submit abstracts for general presentations to both conferences, and a large discount on registration fees is available to everyone who signs up for both, so please be sure to take advantage of this excellent opportunity by attending ASIATOX-VI as well.
As in past programs, our 39th annual meeting will feature not only oral and poster presentations, but also special lectures, educational lectures, symposia, workshops, luncheon seminars, and some novel additions. I hope that as many of you as possible will attend and help make the meeting an even more exciting and fruitful gathering. I look forward to seeing you in Sendai!
